Who are PZ Cussons?

As one of the UK’s most established companies, PZ Cussons is the name behind some of our best-loved household brands. Imperial Leather, Original Source, Carex, Charles Worthington and The Sanctuary are just some of the many historic instantly recognizable names that come together to form the world of PZ Cussons.

The company has operations throughout the world in Europe, Africa and the Far East with a fascinating history that stretches back 125 years.

Key dates in history of PZ Cussons:-

  • 1884 – Following George Henry Paterson and George Basil Zochonis setting up a trading post in Sierra Leone, West Africa, Paterson Zochonis and Company Ltd is incorporated in England.
  • 1899 – Paterson Zochonis expand their successful business across West Africa opening a branch office in Nigeria.
  • 1938 – Alexander Thomas Cussons creates one of the UK’s best loved washing products – Imperial Leather bar soap.
  • 1975 - Paterson Zochonis acquires Cussons Group.
  • 2002 - Paterson Zochonis is renamed PZ Cussons and during the next 6 years acquires the Original Source, Charles Worthington and The Sanctuary brands.
  • 2009 – PZ Cussons celebrates its 125th anniversary and it opens it’s £26m state of the art Innovation Centre in Salford.
